Great Scott!

Back To The Future!
After watching Back To The Future Marathon on TV, I got much enthusiastic about the possibilities of time travelling. According to Doc Brown, the time-travelling car was made possible when he designed a flux capacitor after 'he slipped and hit his head on his bathroom sink while standing on the toilet to hang a clock.' If you haven't watch it already, you should.

Flux Capacitor
The DeLorean

In order for the time machine vehicle to do time travelling, it had to travel up to 88 mph (which is about 140.8 km/h). It's power source for the flux capacitor had to be able to supply up to 1.21 Gigawatts, which is less than the Hoover Dam which produces 2.08 Gigawatts, but imagine the power needed to power the time machine!

The 3 movies had used different power sources to meet such demands. First was the plutonium, followed up by a lightning strike, then a technology from the future called 'Mr.Fusion', and lastly a train just to push it up to 88 mph. But then, this was all just all fun and fiction for the movies.

Einstein's Special Theory Of Relativity

In reality, Einstein had theorized a concept about the speed of light, saying that if we are able to move as fast as light, time would actually stop. And when a particle or an object finally goes faster than the speed of light, it would eventually be able to go back in time and hence, time travel. This phenomenon is called a Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel or superluminal.

There have been several claims that scientists and researchers have been able to break the light barrier, mainly groups from the CERN in Switzerland. They showed results of a neutrino beam travelling from CERN to OPERA detector in Gran Sasso, Italy. This was later disproved after several checks of results from other neighbouring detectors. Test done by Hong Kong Physicists have also proved that a single photon obeys Einstein's theory of nothing is able to travel faster than light.

Holding On To The Present

For now, you and I as ordinary human beings, we should concentrate on present matters. Though I am not saying we shouldn't strive to try new possibilities and pushing the boundaries, we should and must make good use of our time to try and do what's possible first, and doing the things today that will make a difference tomorrow. You don't want to end up pretending you can be like Hiro Nakamura and end up not getting things done later just because you think time is on your side.
